Juan Carlos Torres is a San Francisco-based fine art photographer who masterfully captures the subtle poetry of light, and the hidden narratives that can be found within everything it touches. His images evoke a sense of quiet, mystery, and the safety of home, even in the midst of journeys both physical and metaphorical, and convey a deep respect for his subjects.
Rooted in a rich cultural tapestry woven from his upbringing in both Mexico City and Seattle, Juan Carlos developed an inherently observant and multi-layered perspective that shaped his understanding of place and belonging. His work has gained recognition both online and in print and is noted for its unique visual voice and the intellectual depth of his artistic practice.
Juan Carlos’ early exposure to art and photography were deeply influential. His father, an avid enthusiast, owned Leica cameras and a collection of books by iconic photographers such as Ernst Haas and Ansel Adams, alongside volumes on art and poetry. As a child, Juan Carlos spent countless hours immersed in these pages. Later, with his father, he would pore over images on a slide projector that he had shot with his father’s M3. These early experiences ignited Juan Carlos’ love for image-making and for shooting Leica cameras and lenses, which have been his tool of choice ever since.
He holds Bachelor's degrees in Philosophy and Business from the University of Washington, and an MBA from the Stanford Graduate School of Business. His debut book is slated for release in late 2025.
